I've got some definite favorites this season. Here they are, with links to my favorite of each of their performances so far. (Just click on their names.)

David Cook did an awesome, original take on Lynal Richie's "Hello." I listened to that one 5 or 6 times over again the next day. LOVED IT! He's very original and has a cool rock sound. He's by far my top guy. Week after week he is amazing.

Michael Johns has a very charismatic stage presence. He is mesmerizing. Maybe it's the Australian in him? I don't know, but I love watching him perform. So far none of his songs have really blown me away, but he's got a ton of potential simmering behind that pretty face. It's coming, I know it is.

Carly Smithson is a natural. She consistently gives impressive performances, and she has a great vocal range. She did a great job with "Crazy on You" by Heart. It took me back to the 80s!

Brooke White is easily my favorite girl this season. I love her voice. She's got this Jewel/Carly Simon/Carol King characteristic to it, kind of folksy and so pure. I want a whole CD of just her, singing. She actually has one CD already, but they had to pull it from the shelves to meet with American Idol rules. I found one copy, on amazon.com for $90.00. A little steep. Christmas, anyone? It's called "Songs From the Attic," and I'm dying to hear it.
I think they, along with David Archuleta and David Castro, will make the Top 6 this season. Who do you think will win the competition? Votes in the comments section, please!
But, of course, let me also say that no one has come close to touching my all-time favorite performance from last year: Blake Lewis, with Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name."

I'm going to admit right now that I have never watched a full episode of American Idol. It makes me mega-uncomfortable as a wannabe singer, and just a little jealous that I would NEVER have the guts or talent to do something like that. So I may never watch it, but your post has me almost convinced. :)
I agree with you on Michael Johns or whatever his name is,... You can hear it in his voice he's got a ton a TON of potential,.. but he never lets himself go enough to let it out. I think he would be awesome if he just had a little formal training and let himself get carried away with his song.
you're right,... I did love daniel cook's version of Hello. or whatever his name is,... Still,..I don't like his performance mannerisms,.. But more and more I think he's demonstrating that he has my same taste for rock. Now that I know he can actually play the guitar I am less inclined to think that he's just copying the popular style right now and is bringing more of his own personal element to it. Go David cook!whatever,...
now that I think about it though,.. I think he played the guitar in his beatles performance too didn't he? duh,... I probably should have thought about it then too.
I like Brooke mainly because she grows on ya (the first time I heard her sing I didn't think it was anything special) but now I think she would be awesome singing a Karen Carpenter song. Like Rainy Days and Mondays for example.
I like David Archuleta mainly because he's got a partially paralyzed larynx, and for him to overcome that and sing as well as he does---that is a gift. But he's young and will have his day if this isn't it.
I kind of like Kristy Lee Cook too! I just like her voice. I think she is young and naive and will learn A TON from touring with the top 12 next summer. After touring and a year of singing showbiz I would love to see what she would do. Kind of like it took Kelly Clarkson a good year or two in the big top to really develop her own sound. Kristy has the voice---just not the finesse.
I really like Carly Smithson, she is dynamite. Contrast her to Fantasia. Seriously, is there even a question who would win?
I think that starting last season and very apparent this season, is the fact that amateur professionals are starting to come out of the seams. The first 5 seasons was still attracting people who sang in college, yadda yadda. How many people in this current season have had CDs already and just haven't made it "big"??
From here on out, Idol will be a contest for people who have already been around the ring once or twice rather than giving someone who is inexperienced a real shot. That is my opinion!
I almost forgot: picture Brooke singing Black Horse and a Cherry Tree. I know Katharine McPhee sang it on Idol 2 seasons ago, but her voice is very different from KT Tunsall's. Brooke has her own unique sound, like Tunsall does. I'd love to hear a Brooke White spin on the song.
Check out KT Tunsall actually creating the song at this url, live. SO COOL!!!

I would have to go with the Aussie :-) He is on the news every week he makes it through to another round. We tell all the cute single guys at church that they should head to the states because girls would go crazy for their accent!
Jill and I are big fans too. We agree with your top 6... but we're wondering how far Ramiele will make it. Just one other comment to Amy (who knows if she'll read your comments before I talk to her personally) but only the top 10 tour with the American Idols. Kristy Lee Cook needs to make it one more round before she can tour.
oh man! I forgot that only the top 10 tour....I hope that high school girl gets kicked off tonight. She annoys me.
David Archileta is my favorite!! I know he had a slip up a few weeks ago, but I think he is great. I agree with Brooke White though, she is my favorite female vocalist. I am glad to see we are on the same page with that. Check the sidwell blog to see my idle!!
