Which Chair Should I Choose?

So I'm currently debating nursery seating. I want something comfy to rock the baby to sleep on in the middle of the night, and a place to sit while I feed the kid as well. The question is, what kind of a chair is best? I'd like some input, please.

I'm almost positive I don't want one of these:

I mean, where's the comfort? There's nothing to snuggle my head against when it's 3:00 in the morning. Personally, I think these belong on a porch.

The real debate is, do I get one of these:
Or one of these:
The rocking armchair is really peaking my fancy. It's similar to what my mom had at home, and they seem so luxurious. The real problem is I can only find expensive ones. I like that they can have slipcovers that can be washed, and that they will still look good when you move them to your living room later in life. But am I being indulgent? Shouldn't a glider be good enough? Plus, maybe a glider is actually BETTER, and I just don't know it, because I haven't had a lot of Glider Exposure in my life. So readers, share your thoughts with me.

Hey Angie, I have a glider but it was pricy, It was worth every penny though. I got it because it was space saver and for were we live that was important. There are lots of different kind of Gliders. We actually bought one that rock front to back and side to side. It also reclines back, and if you want it to you can lock it in place so it doesn't rock if you want. If you want your welcome to come over and try mine out if it will help your decision. I have a friend that has the other kind and she loves it. I got this glider because it did more that just glide forward, that was the deciding factor for me. We purchase it at Our new baby in Dothan, it you want to check the place out, the prices are pretty nice. Sorry I've gone on to long already. I just love my Glider. I have spent many a early morning hours accidently falling asleep in it, because it was so comfortable.

We love our glider, but if you've got the $$ for an arm chair style, go for it. I think it would fit into the rest of your decor better when your baby days are over, know what I mean?

That said, I didn't end up using our glider as much as I thought I would when our babies were little-- I found it far more comfortable and convenient to nurse sitting on the bed surrounded by lots of pillows. But now? There's definitely no better place than the glider for stories and a snuggle (or "suggle" as Daniel says).

OK, so speaking from one who went a little luxurious in the glider department, I have to say that comfort is ESSENTIAL! We got a glider that reclines and it is heaven! I would never buy a chair for late night feedings that I couldn't have some sort of reclining in; however, the glider is not the most attractive of chairs - there is no doubt about that! I would never want to put mine anywhere other than the nursery, but I figure that since that is what I bought it for, that is OK. So in a nut shell, don't go too cheap because they are SERIOUSLY not comfortable.

it sounds like you are, but are you sure you even want a rocking chair? i couldn't do a rocking chair because they make me nauseous (funny that pregnancy itself doesn't, but a rocking chair does)...but anyway, we got a chair that i thought i would use all the time for nursing, when actually, the couch ended up being my favorite/most comfortable place to sit. good luck in your search.

So I have one of those old fashioned rocking chairs on my porch and it's great! But I have to second whta everyone says. Spend the money on a glider. You won't be sad you did. We were trying to go cheap but ended up deciding to not scrimp on the rocking chair.
We wanted it to recline, and we wanted to make sure it was tall and comfy enough for Gus too. The covers come off so you can wash them. Keep in mind they will get a LOT of spit up on them.
I really like the idea of the gliding armchairs, they look sooo comfy, but the ones we tried out didn't recline and the covers didn't come off.
I would so get a glider again.

p.s. Also I would so recommend getting the gliding ottoman too. It's soooo nice to have a place to put your feet up or to prop your knees up more to help with "positioning" ;)
I've actually been thinking about making a new cover for our glider so it's cuter. So that's always an option too.

I don't have much more to add, but I will ditto the votes for a glider (and ottoman). I had one with Brett and loved it! We left it in storage in the states and is the biggest thing I miss when it comes to baby stuff!

I LOVE our glider. I just have to say that they are worth the money. It made life that much easier.

Dear Angie,
I have just one question. Have you been to a furniture store to try out any of these chairs? After reading the responses it sounds like everyones has their own style and idea of comfort. It has been said that you can know for yourself which one will be right for you if you experiment and sit upon the chairs. Don't you just love how the scriptures apply to everyday situations. :)
Sincerely,
Rebekah

I don't know. It depends on your space situation. The Glider looks more space realistic, but the rocking chair looks a little better. You can always move either one out into the living room or something if you want to....

First of all, congrats on the little "bean"!!! That is so exciting, isn't it?
Karey and I have thought about the glider quite a bit. We have not bought it yet, but we think that it might be the way to go. Anyway, that is my 2 cents worth.

Personally I would prefer the second one. The thing about gliders is that the arms always got in the way for me and were too high where as with the comfy arm chair and ottoman, the arms seem to go up just the right height to add support and to be comfortable to lean on. They're also generally wider so you have more room to maneuver. But I'm sure either would be just fine if money is the concern.

my advice is,..go to a store that has both and try them,.... so you know the strengths and weaknesses of both. maybe the rocking armchair is only slightly more comfy and not worth the price difference.

Angie I found the name of the Chair I have, it called Dutailier, I haven't looked online to see if you can find it yet. If you do go back to our new baby, ask for Brandon, he is really nice and knows us pretty well, tell him you had some friends special order it and he will let you look thought the books. The name brand it Dutailier
