Bingham Girl's Weekend

This weekend my mom and sisters came to Midway for a weekend getaway together. We had such a blast! We played games, sewed a baby quilt, and went to art galleries and boutiques around town. It's always so much fun having the girls get together to bond.
me, Kathryn, Mom, Emily

On Saturday, we had quite an hour of drama. We had been at a local boutique, looking at crafts and things. There were samples of lotions and body scrubs all over the place. We all kept putting products on and feeling so chic, smelling each other. Well, I came across a spray bottle that was labeled cranberry spice. How could I pass that up?! I took the lid off and sniffed, but couldn't smell anything, so I sprayed a little on my wrist. Oh man! It smelled SO GOOD! I could not resist spraying two or three squirts on my neck. I reveled in my great new aroma.

I came across my mom in the store and asked her to smell me. She wanted to know what I had used, so I showed her the spray. Well, she read the bottle and said, "It says it may irritate skin." What? I looked at the bottle. Then I looked at what it was displayed with - incense. Not body spray.

I said, "Actually, my neck IS starting to sting a little bit. I guess I'll go wash it off in the bathroom." By the time I got to the restroom, the sting had turned into more of a burning, and my neck was turning red. I washed and scrubbed with soap as best I could, but nothing was soothing me and the red was inching up higher and getting brighter.

I hustled out of the restroom and found my mom. When she saw me, she said my neck looked lobster red! We hustled home to take some Benadryll. However, on the way home, I started to worry that I shouldn't take any medicine without my doctor's approval. I called his number, but he was not in the office. Urgent care had closed two hours earlier. And no one answered the phone at the emergency room. (Gotta love small towns at times like this!)

Instead, my mom made me an
oatmeal poultice. I layed on the couch and pretended I was getting a spa treatment for the next hour. It really did make it feel better. An hour later, I was as good as gold. Crazy, I know.
Thank goodness for oatmeal and cold water.

We had a fall feast for dinner - soup in a pumpkin. It was so divine. My friend Rebekah made it last year in Alabama, and Todd has been dreaming of it ever since. We had wanted to make it together before he took off for Oklahoma, but ran out of time. So my mom and sisters and I had it in Todd's honor instead. Here's the recipe:

Slice off the top of one medium pumpkin; clean out the inside of pumpkin and set aside. Saute four cut-up chicken breasts in three tablespoons of butter until golden. Remove and saute three sliced carrots, two sliced celery stalks, and 1/2 cup scallions. Add one can each of cream of chicken soup, cream of celery soup, and chicken alphabet soup. Stir in one can water, 1/3 cup sour cream, and 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg. Mix well and pour into hollow pumpkin. Top with pumpkin top. Place on baking sheet and bake in a 350 degree oven for 90 minutes. Scrape pumpkin sides when serving. Makes eight servings.

Mmm. Pumpkin soup. Divine.

And last but not least, I finally took another belly picture for you all. Oh, and Todd's captain is hoping to send the troop to Afghanistan a little early, so now I'm nervous that Todd'll miss The Bean's arrival. They're hoping to leave December 5th. My due date is December 1st. We'd appreciate any and all prayers that she'll make her appearance before Todd takes off.
Me and The Bean a day shy of 34 weeks.

You seriously look tiny for 34 weeks! Glad that you could have a fun/incense filled weekend :-) (dang funny, by the way.) It is nice that you have so many people around now that Todd is gone.

Have you asked your doctor how he/she feels about inducing? I wonder (if their is no worry for the size of the baby, of course) if it is calling it close to Todd's departure date if your doctor would induce you to ensure that he could meet the baby. Just a thought...

Oh my gosh what a funny story!!! Once my mom & I were trying on perfumes at a dept. store counter, and a woman was helping us, and we grabbed this one that smelled pretty great and sprayed it all over both of us and finally the flustered woman managed to tactfully point out that also the women's version of that scent was over there... Yep we'd doused ourselves in men's cologne. But I think your story is definitely more impressive. Oh and this might be a good time to add that this is Krista and not Travis. And you should totally invite me to your blog so I don't have to sneak into Travis's account to see what you've been up to! It's kristalundell@gmail.com.

Okay, I agree with the last post on inducing. My friend was induced just b/c her husband was in med school and his classes were starting again for Fall! (He's a hermit during the school year.) Another friend had an induction scheduled because they were moving in like 3 days, but ended up going into labor early anyway. My doctor said he doesn't like to let his patients go past their due dates, since there are only problems related to being overdue and no possible benefits. I'm sure you've heard all the induction horror stories and whatnot, but I was induced with both babies and I LOVED it. I just felt so much more in control having everything planned. And also, since I was overdue both times it just took a hint of pitocin to set off labor, so it was short and easy both times. Definitely might be a good option to consider since he's leaving so soon! Sorry, that was too much information and pretty much the longest post ever. Do I win a prize?

Oh yes, and I forgot to say, thanks for the pumpkin recipe!!! We used to have dinner in a pumpkin every Halloween when I was growing up, but my mom has a selective memory and can't remember doing anything like that, so... no recipe. And every recipe I've tried was not so great. I'm excited to try yours! (Do I get another prize for the longest AND most posts?)

sounds like an eventful weekend. the soup does sound yummy. i'm always looking for new recipes. also, it's so fun to see your pregnant belly! isn't it amazing to watch yourself grow with the baby?

and, to add to the other comments about being induced. both lexi and tatum were induced and it worked out well...but then again, i have nothing else to compare it to...

That is so funny! If it makes you feel better, Angela Wunderli totally used my air freshener for hair spray by accident, and a few hours later told me I needed to buy better quality hair spray because mine didn't work. Ha! (it was really funny if you were there, she had no idea she'd grabbed my Air Spray rather than hair spray) And she wasn't preggo at the time :)

Ang, you know you have my prayers on that sweet little Bean coming before he leaves. I loved spending the weekend with you both. Wish it happened more often. :( Thanks for sharing -- you know what I mean. Love ya, and that picture of you and The Bean is super cute.

HA HA, I love you Angie! I'm so glad there are people like me out there. It's too bad it really wasn't a body spray cuz it really does sound fantastic.

The incense incident was hilarious. You are a funny gal! Glad that you had fun with your female family members. I'm sure that everything will work out with Todd making the delivery but we'll pray for you all the same.

Actually I was craving the soup in a pumpkin as well but Troy said that he wasn't too fond of it so I have to think of someone to invite over so that I don't have to eat it all myself. (Great run-on sentence yeah!) Did you double the recipe or did you use a smaller pumpkin than we did? When I made it it didn't come to the top.
