What's That On Your FACE?!

I love having a webcam on my computer. Todd bought a laptop with a built-in camera before he left so that we can have video chats while he's deployed. It's been such a blessing. It is so much nicer to see his face when we talk.

But last night, seeing Todd's face gave me a bit of a surprise. At first, I thought it was just bad lighting. But I kept staring, and finally I had to ask, "Are you growing a mustache?" He laughed and answered in the affirmative. Apparently, all of the guys are doing it. It's a morale-boosting kind of a thing. What the - ?!
Now, I am a big fan of the two-day scruff. But usually the upper lip and the chin and cheeks match. It's so weird for him to have a mustache without a beard. And this is only a couple of days old. Just wait. . .

Being in the military, Todd's never had much of an opportunity to grow facial hair. He keeps an electric razor in the car in case he forgets to shave before leaving for work. He'll get in trouble if he's not clean-shaven. However, apparently they have different standards when we're talking deployment. And, oh baby, Todd is taking advantage of it! It's super weird.

I asked him how long he was going to keep it, and he did NOT have a deadline in mind. So I gave him one. I said he could keep it until the day he comes home for Thanksgiving. I'll see it in person and try out the prickly kiss. But then it's got to come off. He can't have a 'stache in the brand new daddy pictures! My dad went through a mustache phase, and whenever we look at those pictures, we make fun of him and ask him what he was thinking. Todd cannot have his "what were you thinking" fashion moment as we introduce our new chica to the world. Sorry man.
Readers, what are your thoughts on mustaches? I'm talking - unaccompanied by a beard. Just the upper lip hair. Nothing more. Do tell.

"It appears you have a soup stain upon your upper lip" -Jeeves.

And I'd have to agree. Most mustaches require a double take to affirm that it is in fact hair and not something they forgot to wipe off after mealtime.

Although I rather like kissing Jon with a beard. Ugh gross I know.

I'm a big fan of the clean shaven look so I'd do the same thing you did. :)

two important men in my life have mustaches:

first, my dad. there was a period of about a year when he shaved it, but i don't ever remember him without one other than that. i've never understood why he's kept it or why my mom has let him keep it...and i've never asked.

second, my mentor at byu. he is a world-renowned brain scientist and, in his case, the mustache adds to his overall distinguished look. for some reason i think he can get away with it because he's a few generations older than my dad, even.

camping scruff is always nice to look at on kris, but i'm glad he can't stand it and it only lasts a few days.

November is "Men's Health" month in Australia. I am not kidding when I say that they call it "MOvember" and that people raise money by having people donate to the cause if they grow a mustache for the ENTIRE month. (like when you have people donate to a race you are running or something.) All month you see TONS of guys with mustaches.

This is how much I love them: I told Brian that he could donate as much as he wanted to anyone at work that was growing one, but that he could NOT participate in any other way. I can't even picture him with one! Scruff I like, mustache...not so much.

I do have to say though that your post and seeing Todd sporting one made my night -- I am still laughing/smiling. I think you are a good women to let him come home with it...even if it is for a day. And I agree with the new daddy pictures -- clean shaven is a must! :-)

My dad went through a mustache phase too! I think you should play that Divine Comedy "Sexy 'Stache" video for Todd one more time to remind him how sexy a mustache can actually be.

hmm,... stache's are not my fave,... I think before Dan ever goes anywhere else I'm going to upgrade his laptop as well. He's not going to like it though. I gave him a webcam to take with him this last summer and it was totally worth it the times that the camera worked. But I am thinking the hastle of getting it to work was not so tell me how to convince my husband that our expensive laptop needs to go so we can get one with a built in web cam? ,...

So I'm not a fan of the lonely mustache, although if you are growing one for just a short time you should make it as interesting as possible and that's why I totally think Todd should do the 'stache with the curls on the end. AWESOME!!!
There are a few fellows in the world that can pull off a mustache rather nicely but they are few.
I love Gus' scruff and can't imagine how lame it would be to have to shave my FACE everyday.
Gus did have a handlebar mustache for fun for 2 days. It was awesome and he actually pulled it off rather nicely. We took advatnage of it and took western pictures.

you have to remember that Todd's spending his days with a bunch of burly rough men,.. not a bunch of nancy boys,.. he can't just be the character he is and not get any guff from it. Plus, your hair has to be regulation,... so a handlebar mustache might not work out too well.

I think that Todd would make an excellent Hitler with his mustache trimed up a bit. Don't you agree?
