Our new place faces an enormous park, which Hazel can see from our windows, so naturally, we are there most every. single. day. Thank goodness we live somewhere with mild weather! How would I get through the winter otherwise?

Todd came with us to the park on Saturday, and we made a quick stop at the garage, where Hazel picked up this super sanitary morsel: the car wash sponge.

Hazel would not part with it. Occasionally, she would set it down on the ground and stand or sit on it, but she kept it in her clutches for ten or fifteen minutes. Funny girl.
I love this picture.

This week it has rained almost all day, every day, which puts quite an, ahem, damper on playing at the park. Hazel and I were both pretty restless by today, so I searched online for ideas and found an area jewel: the Palo Alto Junior Museum and Zoo.
It's small, interactive, and free. We spent about an hour and a half there today, and that was with just a quick walk through the little zoo while the rain took a short break. For a ten-minute drive, I couldn't have asked for a better find.
Hazel loved the stuffed animal cave:

which had some frighteningly realistic residents! I was creeped out by the raccoon claws and the furry tarantula, but Hazel adored the owl.
There were also several exhibits that used tennis balls, PVC pipe, and cranks. Hazel stayed at this one for a long time, putting balls in the tube over and over again, watching them fall into a big silver bowl.

Later on, she figured out how to climb into the bowl and put her head down at the end of the tube to watch other children's balls come through.
Any other rainy day ideas for a one-year-old?

How are things coming with acquiring a 2nd car?
we loved going to that place when we were there, too! i wish i had some ideas for you. i'm stumped, too, and i live in seattle!
Our rainy day stand-by when we lived out there was a loooooong visit to IKEA. There's hardly anybody there during the day and I just let the boys run and "test" the furniture. I loved it, they loved it-- I just had to be sure to leave my wallet home.
Kind of lame, but it got us out of the house!
Fun fun fun! Sounds like you made a GREAT find for hours of indoor fun! Milk that baby for all its worth. :)
Oh my Angie, I haven't visited your blog in awhile and just got caught up. Hazel is an absolute doll...seriously! I like your new apartment too--very crafty with the frames/blanket. It looks like Todd is enjoying being home with his ladies. Ok just to clarify again: Hazel. Is. So. Cute. I. Could. Eat. Her. Up.
Email me that pic of Haze grinning in between the wood planks - I want to mess with it and send it back to ya. I found her adorableness inspiring.
She is so big and so cute.
Oh my gosh! I just loved that picture of Hazel! She's so adorable! And way to go Angie, making such valuable discoveries. Kudos to you!
Okay, Please email me a copy of that cute picture, too! I thought about trying to copy it off of your blog, but an email would probably be better quality! Thanks, XOX
I hear ya with the rain. We are going crazy ourselves. I finally just gave in to my crazy boys who insisted that it was just fine to go the park in the rain. We had fun and came home drenched! Yes I also agree that picture of Hazel is adorable. What a cutie.
